GCSE EXAM 2009 :: Posted 25-02-2009

GCSE EXAM 2009 [MAY 1st – MAY 8th.]

  • There are four performance groups this year and after some consideration, I don’t think there will be sufficient time to set the lights up and run the dress rehearsals in one day.

  • Because of the large group this year and the large 2010 year group who need to come and watch the performances, we don’t think there will be sufficient room in the Hut for the audience at the dress rehearsal on the Monday evening.

  • Because all parents work now, parental help has become increasingly difficult to access.

Therefore: if you all still want to go ahead with lighting the performances (we have always done this in the past and it definitely enhances the pieces, but responsibility for the lighting has always rested with parents and performers) I propose the following:

Friday May 1st during the day. Lights to be fetched from Stradbroke before 5.00pm.- or you could pay to have them delivered to the Hut.
Friday May 1st 6.30pm. Parents to set the lights up and black out the Hut. I will put the curtains up.
Saturday May 2nd 9.00am start. Technical rehearsals most of the day. Bring costumes. We might use them as well. Bring mobiles so you can phone to tell parents when to pick up.
Sunday May 3rd 10.00am start. Dress rehearsals.
Monday May 4th 7.00pm Performance to family and friends.
Examination. I can’t arrange this until the examiner phones me. I am hoping for the Tuesday morning. If not the Wednesday. It is a requirement of the exam that we have an audience for the exam, so if there are parents (and grandparents) who could come to this it would be very much appreciated.
Thursday May 7th 6.30pm Performance to GCSE 2010 class and drama club members and friends.
Thursday May 7th 8.15 Parents and candidates to clear up Hut and lights.
Friday May 8th Lights to be returned to Stradbroke by 5.00pm - or you could pay to have them fetched.

The students have found two year 10s who are keen to operate the lights. We have never had anyone this young do the job before. In the last few years, adults have done it, and even they find it difficult! It is a big responsibility under a considerable amount of pressure. It can become a rehearsal for the lighting technicians and not the (all important) performers if we are not careful!

I will need another adult on the premises in case of emergencies. Please could parents give this some thought and if they can help or think of anyone else to provide a back up for the students (especially on the Saturday) this might help them to get it off the ground.
The cost of Blackwing bringing the lights to the Hut and fetching them again would work out at £5.00 per candidate.

Please could you fill in the form attached and return it to us ASAP so that we can work out a rota and make sure we have enough help.

We need to have a proper run through of all the pieces ASAP now. I have slots on some Tuesdays from 4.30 – 6.30 and a few Saturday mornings 9.30 – 11.30. These have been arranged with the 9.11 group and the Sierra Leona group, but the other groups’ members need to talk to each other and get back to me with a couple of options for dates.

I am looking at Thursday April 16th as a day to rehearse in the holidays if necessary. If someone in your group is going to be away, we can still rehearse without them. There are some people who would benefit considerably from individual help. Please let me know if you are free.

We need to prioritise now as the exam is looming!

Best wishes

Louise
