Parents Letter January 2008 :: Posted 01-01-2008

Dear Everyone

A very Happy New Year to you all!

I hope you all had a good Christmas break. Unfortunately Patsy was very unwell over Christmas and ended up in the operating theatre on Christmas eve. She is recovering now but won’t be back with the club for a while. Jo Kindred has very kindly agreed to come and help with the play and the trustees will also be helping on club nights, but this will be a particularly busy term with the show and we will be stretched, so please be patient with us.

Rehearsals
I have opted for an extended time on Thursdays plus the two Sunday rehearsals, rather than putting in rehearsals on other days. If we are badly affected by children missing rehearsals because of illness or bad weather, I will have to review the situation.

There will inevitably be times when children have to sit and ‘wait for their bit’ during rehearsals, especially when we start ‘running through’ and they need to be prepared for this please.

Fees
This term’s class fees for everyone in ‘The Crainies’ will be £22.00 (only 2 members of any one family pay). We will also be charging a rehearsal fee of £7.00 per child to cover the extra costs of costumes, lighting and venue hire etc. Both these fees are due by half term, after which we operate a penalty fee of £2.00 per child. Please make cheques out to LCDC. Thank you. With Patsy away, collecting the money will be more difficult for us. It would be very helpful if you could pay the full amount (£29.00) in one go, on time and if possible by cheque and be prepared to wait a week to receive a receipt. If a cheque is not possible, please put cash in a sealed envelope with the child’s name on it.

GCSE fees
The monthly payments of £15.00 will come into operation this term. Please speak to us to arrange how you want to pay.

Schools matinee.
We are hoping to do a performance to schools on the morning of Friday March 7th. This will involve children missing a morning of school. We are in the process of obtaining a ‘Body of Persons licence’ which is issued by the child employment team at Suffolk County Council to cover children taking part in performances during school hours. We will be presenting this to Mr Nichols at Halesworth Middle School with our request for him to authorise absence for children from the school for that morning (we will chaperone children from the school to The Cut and back again) The ultimate decision for authorising absence lies with the school and not the county but hopefully the licence will work in our favour.

Please can parents of children from other schools be responsible for asking permission for their children to miss school that morning. Everyone of school age involved in the performance is on the licence and we can photocopy it as many times as is required so if you would like a copy of the licence to back up your request for absence please ask.

Camp
There are places at camp for girls in all age groups and for boys in years 4 – 7. Let us know if you would like to come. It will take place over the last weekend of the summer holidays; August 28th – 31st.

Best wishes from us all and thank you in advance for your cooperation with the smooth running of the show!

Louise and the trustees.
